My Mom

Thank you so much for your prayers for my mom!! They are so appreciated!

Here is what is happening.

Tuesday night my parents came over to our house for dinner and while I was talking with my mom I noticed all of the sudden the right side of her face wasn't moving very well. It wasn't extreme at all or even very obvious, but enough to where I noticed. I asked her if she was okay and she said she just felt a little funny but was fine. I kind of freaked out a little in my head and secretly brought it to Heath's attention so he could see what I was seeing. He did and in private mentioned it to my dad. We didn't want to worry my mom if it wasn't necessary. My dad had not noticed at this point. They went home and my dad observed her through the night. It still wasn't very obvious. However, when she woke up Wednesday morning it was much worse, so they went straight to the ER.

All day Wednesday and Thursday they ran several tests, including a C-scan and an MRI. They weren't sure if it was Bell's Palsy or a stroke. We were praying and praying for it to be Bell's Palsy because that is much MUCH less serious than a stroke.

It was a rough couple of days, but this afternoon we got all the results back and it was NOT a stroke! It is Bell's Palsy!! Bell's Palsy is a virus that inflames the nerve that affects the muscles in the face. It usually heals completely with no trace that it ever happened. The right side of her face will probably be immobilized for another few weeks and then she will start to regain movement. I've known a couple of people who have had this, but I didn't know anything about it. You can go here to read a brief and very understandable explanation of what it is.

We were all very freaked out, but we are praising God for the outcome! My mom is very strong and has a lot of faith, so she remained pretty calm through the entire experience!

I, on the other hand, had a little bit of a harder time staying calm. I kept praying Isaiah 41:10.

"Don't panic. I am with you.
There's no need to fear for I'm your God.
I will give you strength. I will help you.
I will hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you."

It really helped me get through the last couple of days!

I love y'all and would appreciate your prayers for a quick recovery.

Praise God! I am so glad to hear she is doing better and did not have a stroke. I know you are too. I love that verse. Is that version from the message?

That is scary, but I am glad to hear that it was not a stroke. I hope she recovers quickly, I am with you, I dont think I could remain calm, I tend to go crazy when any member of my family is even a little sick let alone Bell's Palsy! I will pray right now!

Janelle!

I'm just now catching up on blogs and came and read this. Praising the Lord she is ok. That actually happened to my roomates mom a few years ago. It too was Bells Palsy!

Praying for your mom! And, you have a right to be scared. I would be too! ;)

Have a great weekend!

My mother woke up with one side of her face paralyzed last year and it was also Bell's Palsy. It was such a relief - we were so concerned it was a stroke or something similarly devastating. It took a while (several weeks, I think) to clear up. It was very scary, but she is totally fine now, and I'm sure your mother will be too!

I'm keeping you both in my prayers... Keep us posted!
